CMCF Introduces Groundwork Grants
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation, a grantmaking arm of Foundation for the Carolinas, is introducing a new grant opportunity in 2026 designed to provide larger, longer-term support for organizations working to strengthen economic mobility across Mecklenburg County.
Through Groundwork Grants, CMCF will offer one competitive grant cycle in 2026, awarding a limited number of grants of up to $200,000 over a two-year period.
The opportunity is designed for organizations leading comprehensive, community-centered efforts that bring together residents, partners and resources to advance long-term neighborhood outcomes. Rather than supporting a single program or service, Groundwork Grants will invest in broader, place-based strategies that address interconnected challenges and build on the strengths of communities.
The shift reflects the continued evolution of CMCF’s grantmaking and an effort to direct resources where they can have the greatest impact. By providing larger grants over a longer period, CMCF aims to support sustained efforts that strengthen neighborhoods and connect residents to opportunities and solutions.
Applications Open October 5
Eligible 501(c)(3) publicly supported charities may apply October 5-30, 2026. Grant recipients will be selected and notified by the end of December.
Organizations considering applying are encouraged to review the available resources and connect with FFTC staff to learn more about the opportunity.
