FFTC’s first 60 years

For more than six decades, Foundation For The Carolinas has evolved right alongside the Charlotte region. Like Charlotte’s population and business, nonprofit, sports and cultural sectors, FFTC’s assets, grantmaking, and reach has grown significantly and swiftly.

With an initial investment of  $3,000 in 1958, the Charlotte Community Foundation was off and running. By 1976, the foundation hit $1 million in assets and in 1978, grants to nonprofits exceeded $500,000. The following decades featured continued growth, impact and exciting changes, with an expanded geographical footprint, a name change, new headquarters and record numbers in grantmaking. By 2012, FFTC held more than $1 billion in assets and just five years later, topped $2 billion in assets and nearly $3 billion in cumulative grants to nonprofits.

When FFTC marked its 60th anniversary in 2018, the celebration included a visual walk down memory lane and chronicled these milestones and others throughout tits history of inspiring philanthropy.
